Day 1
Departing the local area, we make our way north with a lunch stop on route arriving at our overnight hotel: 3* Holiday Inn Darlington, with time to settle in before dinner.
|Day 2
We continue north through the Lowland Hills past Glasgow to Stirling, Perth and Pitlochry, arriving late afternoon at the 3* Highlander Hotel, Newtonmore. The hotel is set in the stunning location of the Cairngorm National Park and has stunning views over the surrounding mountains.
|Day 3-6
During your stay the follwing excursions are included:
After a leisurely breakfast we make way to Aviemore a picturesque village in the Cairngorms National Park, in the winter it is know for its snowsports and in the summer for the spectacular scenery and walking trails. This afternoon, we visit the Highland Wildlife Park, home to the famous Scottish Wildcats and other interesting animals including Snow Leopards, Arctic Foxes, Polar Bears and the Northern Lynx.
Today we travel north into the Highland capital, Inverness. Here we join the Scotrail train for one of the Great Railway Journeys of the World - the line to Kyle of Lochalsh. The route takes us through some of the best scenery in the country, skirting lochs and passing remote villages. After a break in Kyle of Lochalsh we enjoy the return journey, this time by road, back to the hotel.
This morning we travel south west along the shore of Loch Laggan and through Glen Spean to Fort William. Here we have another train journey, this time on the celebrated West Highland Line to Mallaig. This spectacular line passes hidden lochs and inlets, silver sands, and crosses the magnificent Glenfinnan viaduct on its way west. We intend to travel on the Jacobite Steam Train however should there be any interruption to the service we would travel on the Scotrail Train instead. Mallaig is a major fishing port and we have time to wander around the harbour and explore before we catch the train for the return journey to Fort William, where we rejoin the coach for the ride back to Newtonmore.
This morning we travel through unspoilt scenery past Loch Mhor and along Stratherrick to Fort Augustus. Enjoy time at leisure in Fort Augustus which sits on the impressive Caledonian Canal at the tip of Loch Ness. This afternoon we enjoy a cruise, with commentary, on Loch Ness on board 'The Royal Scot' from the Caledonian Canal.
Day 7
We say goodbye to the Cairngorms National Park and make our way south, stopping in the historic town of Stirling with its imposing Castle, to our overnight hotel the 3* Holiday Inn Dumfries.
|Day 8
After breakfast we continue our journey home, with appropriate stops on route, arriving back early evening.
